Architecture, gastronomy and culture come together in this beautiful town whose historic center was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1965.

Its streets, its castle, its walls, its houses. Here are 5 suggestions for you to enjoy your visit and make the most of it. I’m sure you will repeat.

1. A stroll through the old town of Ainsa

Strolling through the streets of Ainsa is a treat for the senses. Lose yourself in each of its corners, look up and enjoy its houses and monuments… It is a journey into the past that will take you back to the Middle Ages: the Bielsa house, the Plaza Mayor, the Arnal house, the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, the Collegiate church… A lot of magic among its stones.

2. The castle and the ramparts

The castle of Ainsa is one of the most emblematic sites of this place. Its oldest part is the Torre del Homenaje, which was built on Arab remains in the eleventh century and is guarded by the walls that protected its inhabitants. The appearance it has today was the result of the fortification policy carried out in the seventeenth century by Philip II.

The Ainsa Eco-Museum is located inside the Torre del Homenaje; in the northeast tower we can visit the regional tourist office and the Sobrarbe Geopark Interpretation Center is located in the southeast tower. The parade ground is the stage for different cultural and leisure activities.

3. Eco Museum-Visitors’ Center of the Castle of Ainsa

As we told you a moment ago, inside the Torre del Homenaje is the Eco Museum-Visitors’ Center of the Castle of Aínsa. Its main objective is the dissemination of the main values of the fauna and flora of the Pyrenees and the promotion of environmental education. It has four areas: the reception and information area; the interpretation area; the fauna lodge, with a guided exhibition on birds of prey, and the documentation area.

4. The Morisma

The Morisma is one of the most popular events in the town. It is celebrated every two years and is a festival that recreates the events that took place in the battle between Moors and Christians during the reign of Garci Ximenez, in the eighth century.

The actors who perform this interpretation, which takes place in the Plaza Mayor, are the residents of the village and other municipalities in the region. It is a festival declared of Tourist Interest in Aragon.

5. International Festival Castillo de Ainsa

The Festival Castillo de Ainsa is one of the most prestigious musical events in our autonomous community. It brings together different artistic, cultural and scenic proposals in which we can find concerts of various genres, street theater and many other activities.

This year’s edition will be held from July 5-8, 2018.

Nature, festivities and culture in Aínsa Aínsa is one of those places in the Sobrarbe region that are a must-see.
